Vegetarian Sushi ( Practical Week 5 )

Teamwork Aspects:
 Task = Making Vegetarian Sushi

- Skills within team = I felt as if we were at our strongest point in this lesson so far. We were neat and correct with measurements.

- Improvements = All we lacked this session, was time management. We struggled to complete all of our independent sushi rolls on time before the bell rang.

- Time Management = Our time management wasn't as great as it could've been this week and we definitely could have been more organised with it.

Product/Outcome
- Feedback = Our sushi was perfectly rolled and delicious. They were all fresh and full of veggies too.

- Taste, Texture, Colour etc of product. = All 4 rolls of sushi were even, crunchy, filled perfectly and were extremely fresh.

- Improvements or modifications that can be made = Next time we could be more organised with time management.

Next step for own learning

- I could've been much more aware of our time management and could've started more tasks to help complete it faster.

Cave Drawings

My cave drawings were simply about my community and new technology, that we use today.

This was important to me because I was able to express my culture and likings.

My design fit in with the traditional cave art technique by relating to culture and community in one.

Children Of Blood And Bone

Chapter 74 – Inan
Note: This time you have not been provided a quote from the story. This is an
explanation.
King Saran firmly believes in duty over self. Peace between maji and kosidán
failed in the past, so he does not want to try again.
Inan believes he must make a similar choice between his country and his
heart. He makes the same choice as his father, even though the majacite
sword blisters his own skin (this is symbolism). Inan gives up everything to be
everything his Father wants.
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is

- The message I take away from this explanation is that King Saran has to put his people, his country before himself. Duty as a king (royal) is to always protect what your ruling over. Inan wants to give everything up to be best in his father's eyes because in my opinion, his feelings have gotten the better of him. Knowing his father feels proud, and adores him a bit more Inan's feelings, of course, start to feel positive blinding him into believing his father.

Fish n Chips ( Practical Week 4 )

Teamwork Aspects:
Task = Making Fish n Chips

- Skills within team = We actually, worked really effectively with each other on Friday. There were some slight ups and downs with measurements, but in the end we got there with a delicious result.

- Improvements = We could definitely work on, making sure we have correct measurements next time as we found this day, we had too much of one ingredient and not enough of another.

- Time Management = Our time management was well put together this week, we found were weren't rushing to put things away at the end of the period and actually had time to spare.

Product/Outcome
- Feedback = Feedback given was that our fish n chips were well cooked. The fish was golden and crispy, and the chips were also very sweet.

- Taste, Texture, Colour etc of product. = Both the fish and the chips were sweet and crispy, the fish fell apart just right. The fish was an undertone golden colour, while the chips were a pale yellow colour. The concept idea was to create paper cones, to put our end result in!

- Improvements or modifications that can be made = Next time we could be more organised with measurements and decoration.

Next step for own learning

- I could be more hands-on, in my group and start on new tasks in the kitchen.

Tech And Change - Social Studies

Are students addicted to their cellphones? If so, is that a problem?

- From what I've observed students, around me wouldn't be considered "addicted" to their phones ( devices ) although, I may not see how they use their devices at home, from what I have witnessed I can clearly tell were not addicted. On the other hand I definitely agree we could use some off screen time.

- Yes, it would be a problem if students especially young ones were to be addicted to their device at such a age. Being on a screen to long can affect you in all sorts of ways. Ether it be mental or physical. Mental aspects would mean, you could get affected by words said online that are personal and it could take a toll on you, you could get roped into unnecessary online drama or bullying and more. Social Media has it's good and bad side. Physically you could drain yourself if your on your device to much, especially if your losing sleep over it. This can cause bad eye sight, sleepless nights and mood swings.

( Do I think devices are good? Honestly yes, their extremely helpful and handy in ways we couldn't even imagine. Is it okay if were addicted? No, as much as I like the concept of technology, they also bring a lot of bad outcomes and can cause you to stray away from things. )

Children Of Blood And Bone

Chapter 66 – Inan

Father stands in his night robes, scanning a faded map. No sign of hatred. Not
even a hint of disgust.
For him, carving MAGGOT into a girl’s back is just another day’s work.

In that instant it hits me: Zulaikha’s death. Zélie’s screams. They don’t mean a
thing to him. Because they’re maji, they’re nothing.

The message I take away from this scene is, that this could relate to The Power Of One, where the Germans had full power over the African culture of people. Though like, King Saran the Germans abused the power and overruling they had. Both held grudges against, those who they thought didn't deserve anything, who didn't mean anything to them.

Children Of Blood And Bone

Chapter 63 - Zélie
“You know what intrigues me about your kind? You always start in the middle
of the story. As if my father didn’t fight for your rights. As if you maggots didn’t
burn my family alive.”
“You can’t enslave an entire people for the rebellion of a few.”
Saran bares his teeth. “You can do whatever you want when you’re the king.”

- The message I take way from this is...that you can never know the full truth. There is always a reason behind, ones doing. King Saran, was taking his long overdue revenge, on those who once took his family away from him. The line "you can do whatever you want when you're the king" basically is relating to abusing your power, taking advantage of the overruling you have. The king has been painted as this evil, monster who just wants everything his way making it hard for people to want to know, his story.

Children Of Blood And Bone

Chapter 61 – Zélie
Tears sear my vision, falling fast down my face. A Healer. A child.
Yet her last moments are stained with hate.

- A message I take from this is...that we shouldn't take our lives for granted. We should always be grateful for being safe and for what we have as we never know what could come in the future. This brave, thirteen year old stepped up in front of a royal army just to protect her people and take the consequences, we now know we should always be grateful for such people.

Jam Drops ( Practical Week 3 )

 Jam Drops

Teamwork Aspects:
- Task = Making Biscuit Jam Drops!

- Skills within team = I personally think our team works effectively with each other, as we all contribute each others ideas and help.

- Improvements = I think, some things we could improve on is making sure we listen to instructions more thoroughly and make sure we are on time to class.

- Time Management = We were a few minutes late to put them in the oven as, they had come out of the fridge later than we had expected.

Product/Outcome

- Feedback = We got told that, they actually tasted really nice but could've got left in a little longer.

- Taste, Texture, Colour etc of product. = They turned out beautiful, they were soft and tasty. They came out a slightly underdone golden/tan colour, but they still could've cooked longer!

- Improvements or modifications that can be made = Definitely next time we need to be on time, listen more thoroughly to instructions and come early to class to be prepared. We also could of moved the trays around in the oven so they cooked longer and faster, plus listen to the instructions more clearly.

Next step for own learning

- I think that I could possibly include myself more and help with more of the hands on work!

Child Of Blood And Bone

Chapter 59 – Zélie
“How will me coming back to Lagos solve any of that?” I ask. “As we speak,
your father calls for my head!”
“My father’s scared.” Inan shakes his head. “He’s misguided, but his fear is

justified. All the monarchy’s ever seen is the destruction maji can bring.
They’ve never experienced anything like this.” He gestures to the camp, face
alight with so much hope his smile practically glows in the darkness. “Zulaikha
created this in one moon, and there are already more diviners in Lagos than
anywhere else in Orïsha. Just imagine what we could accomplish with the
resources of the monarchy behind us.”

- A message I took away from this is, that in order to believe in something for the better you need to take risks. Follow your heart to what it truly decides, and see what happens along the way. Inan has seemed to convince Zelie, and potentially me as well in going back to Lagos in order to make a better, more peaceful Orisha. Who wouldn't want peace and zero wars? but what could the potential obstacles along the way be...

Maglev ( Vehicle )

What is Maglev?

- It is a magnetically levitated vehicle, which flows by the forces of magnets. When the vehicle is levitated it does not touch the ground nor need wheels. This development began in Japan in 1970. Using super-conducting magnets. Japan is ahead all many other countries opening the Miyazaki Maglev test track in 1977.

How does Maglev help and affect us?

- Maglev has traveled at least 500 kilometers per hour, although your standard high speed train only travels at 300 kilometers an hour. High speed trains often succeed in fast high speed test runs, but can't go fast all the time. For example there are many moving parts on the track and the track had to be straightened quite often or else the train could fall off the track!

Maglev compared to an aeroplane?

- 500 kilometers is only have of what an aeroplane can go, but due to airports being extremely packed and overused these days, trains come in handy for those extra passengers that aren't in need of a plane to travel to their destinations. Trains such as Maglev, are also extra convenient as they can still operate in more weather conditions compared to aeroplanes. Passengers also don't have to wait as long before getting on the train, as theirs no customs or searching required. Maglev, conserves energy meaning they use fewer natural resources and don't make as much pollution.

The dangers of Maglev?

- Although they claim these trains are safe, passengers are actually exposed to electromagnetic fields the same kind produced as the power wire and household appliances. There have been many debates over if they oppose as a threat or not.

Child Of Blood And Bone

Chapter 52 – Amari

“I’ll prove myself to you, to all of you,” Inan declares.
“You’re on the right side of this. My only desire is to stand there as well.”
“Good.” I lean forward to hug him, holding on to his promise.
But when his hands wrap around my back, all I can think of are how his fingers
are resting just above my scars.
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is

- Do you trust Inan? Does he deserve a second chance?
At this point, I'm not really sure enough weather to trust him or not. What he did or tried to do, is really unforgivable, but if forgiving him means a peaceful accepting Orisha then who wouldn't forgive him? Although, I think once I read chapter 52 properly it might become more clear. Though his words do sound too convincing Amari.

- Do people in real life deserve second chances
Honestly, it depends on how big the situation is. If it's roughly minor and fixable then sure, but there are many things someone can do to put themselves in a awful situation which, could quite possible lead to no second chances.

Child Of Blood And Bone

Chapter 49 – Amari
Strike, Amari.
Father’s voice rings in my head, but it’s not his strength I need.
Be brave, Amari. Binta soothes instead.
Be the Lionaire.
King Saran sees the ability to hurt others as strength. Amari has realized that strength can
mean something else, as she learned from Binta. I believe strength comes from being strong
enough to do what is right.

- What I can take from this is, that encouragement is a big part of life. Although it can be coming from two different, people with two very different outlooks and views...having the strength and encouragement can really help boost someones confidence and really show them how to believe. So in conclusion, everyone should be encouraging and it really goes a long way.

The Power Of One ( My Assessment, Term 2 Reflections )

The Power Of One,
Is a novel by Australian author Bryce Courtenay, while also being made into a movie directed by John. G Avildson and produced by Arnon Milchan. Which the movie was released in 1992. The Power Of One, is a movie made about a young South African boy, who grows up while world war 2, is happening around him. He watches those who he loves, die before him as he continued to grow to become a boxer, being taught by an inmate Geel Piet, who got killed by a german soldier. As time went past, Justice for Geel Piet was served, Peekay became the boxer he had always dream of.

SEXXY PARAGRAPH 1

In this scene you can see that they have used a low angle camera shot effectively.
Director, John. G Avildson used a low angle shot, showing some of the prisoners, digging into the ground
during the on-going  running shot. The purpose of this shot was to come off strong due to the tools being hammered into the ground. Avildson, wanted to give off that the prisoners were often working  hard, in any condition. Showing that, working was to other people, only known purpose in life.
The technique created impact by letting the audience take a look at what the prisoners have to go through
in order to stay alive. It shows the reality they all had to go through, so the viewers could really see  that.
In conclusion this low angle technique that had shown the current inmates using tools to hammer the ground,
had been used to express a simple yet meaningful picture of reality. This technique was used to bring in a strong
difference as they were digging though Peekay was freely out was running.

SEXXY PARAGRAPH 2

- In this shot you can see they have secondly used a two shot within this scene.
The director has used this camera angle in order to fit both main characters of this scene
at the time into the one shot. The use of this shot was to simply be able to show both characters whom are talking, and are leading the scene and storyline at that moment. This shot made it easier for the audience to see, both PeeKay and one of the inmates having a conversation while running. This helps show meaning and more emotion to the audience, due to it being reflected off of both characters. Together this technique can be used effectively and often causing it to be easier for the audience. It was easy and understanding seeing both characters with emotion bouncing from one another. This way it was also easy for both characters, as they didn’t have to take single shots.

SEXXY PARAGRAPH 3

- Lastly a dolly/tracking shot was used effectively in this scene.
John. G Avildson had used this camera angle to give the whole main effect of running away.
Using this shot they had made their running look much more realistic than it could’ve been. Making the whole main point of this scene come alive. Using this camera angles makes it a more realistic experience for those watching, who now suddenly see the main characters at the time start running towards them. It also points out that this entire scene is completely on them. This consistent camera shot helps show whose in charge of the current scene, whilst following them. Following the characters makes a more realistic picture in your head while watching which causes a better definition to people.

Conclusion

In conclusion some of the main, camera techniques used were… a low angle shot, a two shot and lastly a dolly/tracking shot. A low angle shot created more of a realistic depth, with showing some of the prisoners hammering into the ground, like slaves. Whilst, the two shot was simply for fitting the two main characters at the time into the camera frame plus being able to actually see both of their emotions bounce off each other when communicating. And finally the dolly/tracking technique was used to help show viewers who was in control, and to hope that it created a more understanding feeling whilst following them.

My Reflection

I am proud of how well I used more detailed words such as, effectively in my paragraphs as it gave more detail and a better understanding to the scene. To improve next time, I could add more detailed evidence/examples in my body paragraphs. One thing I enjoyed learning about the film is... that I had developed more information about slavery in the 1930's, which also Incorporated world war 2 which was currently going on. The most challenging thing I found about learning the film was, how to get the exact film technique. I kept thinking, that it wasn't the proper technique that they had used. I found TAKO and SEXXY really useful when writing my paragraphs! What I'm wondering is if I'll ever be able to use this in real life.
